New Year, New Auburn, Old Me

It’s the new year and if you’re like most of us, you have already written a letter that says, “Dear New Year's Resolution it was nice while it lasted, sincerely, January 2nd.” It is such an odd time of the year where it takes like six weeks to type the correct year, everyone is all about new year - new me while signing up for gym memberships they will regret in February, and we all are preparing for “haven’t seen you since last year,” jokes from Randy at the water cooler.

Really though, it’s ok to like yourself, even if it is the 2023 self, who still has 20 extra pounds and doesn’t want to do hot yoga meditation with chai tea. Maybe you’ve come to realize there’s some habits you just don’t need to start, even more so, some you don’t need to quit. Like shopping, eating out, and exploring. No one likes a quitter anyway, so here’s two “Old Me” things you can bring into the new year that Auburn has to try.

Shopping

Enter White Willow Co. This is an exciting new gift boutique featuring incredible floral creations and new as well as repurposed home decor items. This shop is a fun environment to enjoy as you find your special occasion items. An even added bonus is it is locally women owned and operated.

Another must see and often overlooked store right here in Auburn is El Mercado a large latino grocery store and deli. This place has some awesome finds from authentic seasoning, drinks, and ingredients to an authentic deli with some of the best food in the area. This is the place for special occasion piñatas too, with an enormous selection to choose from.

With all your extra holiday money you may be looking to upgrade your technology life and this is where the Best Buy Outlet is such an awesome new find. With a great selection of clearance electronics, including TVs, computers, cell phones, appliances and more, you’ll be sure to find exactly what you need at a fraction of the cost.

Dining

Coffee and cats. Say less! Auburn Humane Society has just opened the Kitty Cafe where you can sip on your favorite drink while hanging with furry friends. This spot is such a fun place that not only offers pet adoption but kitty yoga and many other fun monthly events. The coffee is awesome and the company is even better.

Finding a new spot to eat that’s yummy and affordable is a task these days but Haveli Indian Grill meets both of these goals. With vegetarian options available, everyone can find something they like here. Featuring an incredible Garlic Naan and Mango Chicken Curry as well as many varieties of Masala, Paneer, and Biryani this place is a must try. Your tummy will smile with some of the best food in the area and their prices will make your bank account smile too.

Resolution

Some things just don’t need to change. Exploring new shopping and dining options are some of them. So although you may just be choosing to be yourself for your resolution this year, that’s ok. Finding new experiences for that “old me” is what will make this year feel fun and fresh. Auburn provides many of those experiences just waiting for you to try. It’s a new year, new Auburn, and an old you ready to make sure that this fresh blank page of a new year will get some price markdowns and food stains on it.
