Fall Vibes Are Upon Us

Labor Day weekend is over, kids are back to school, and the fact I can’t put my Christmas tree up yet, but I do have to put my swimsuits away is really starting to settle in. I have Green Day “September Ends” playing as I look at frost on my car and rain in the forecast. Ugh.

It’s not all bad though. Fortunately, we may not have all had the fabulous summer body we wanted, but everybody looks great in an oversized sweater. Just because it’s 59 degrees out doesn’t mean we have to be bored, cold, just watching football and political debates. The good news, we can fill our calendars with some exciting adventures, from attending the Parrot Expo, to binge dining, to shopping, and eagerly awaiting the Grand Opening event of the Postmark Center for the Arts.

PRETTY BIRD

Seattle Parrot Expo: More info at www.flightclubfoundation.org

The Seattle Parrot Expo is a feathered fiesta that is such an awesome celebration of all things avian. Happening September 23rd & 24th, 10am - 5pm, with over 40 live animals on display, this kaleidoscope of colors and personalities is super fun for the whole family. The price is right up my alley. . . FREE! Leaves me extra cash to buy some cool merch and grab dinner after.

Plus did I mention they have a parrot photo booth, performing parrot shows each day, a reincarnated rainforest where you need to find all the parrots hidden inside, parrot games, and top professionals in the world giving really engaging talks. So, whether you’re a parrot enthusiast or think they are tye-dye chickens who just scream at you, this is a super fun and free experience.

LIFE IS TOO SHORT FOR CELERY

Iyara Thai Cuisine: More info at www.iyarathaicuisine.com

There’s really three ways to my heart. 1. Buy me food. 2. Make me food. 3. Be food. I can’t help it, I’m the type of person who sits in front of a salad asking it to be a donut. So to spice up my September, I put a few restaurants on my “must try” list. Oh, might I add they did not fail.

Only true experts in living life to the fullest can appreciate the atmosphere at Stack 571. Their gourmet burgers are quite the experience, the likes of which even me and my adventurous spirit had never seen. Plus, they have a hand-selected gallery of fine whiskeys from people who make it their legend to craft only the best. When I saw how good this place looked, I didn’t need any convincing because I know a good time when I see one.

But you can’t spice up September without actual spices. Enter Thai Food. Iyara is a family-owned and operated Thai eatery, using traditional Thai recipes and lots of traditional spices. Everything is fresh and hand selected and made in the spirit of Thailand. Since I don’t want to live in regret, looking back and thinking, “I could have eaten that” I got out and had an awesome time enjoying wonderful food with my loved ones.

RETAIL THERAPY

Emerald City Fashion: More info at www.facebook.com/emeraldcityfashion

Got 99 problems? Shopping solves all of them. September brought with it an opportunity to refresh my wardrobe with the latest fall fashion trends. There’s something therapeutic about browsing the selection at Emerald City Fashion. With cozy sweaters, stylish boots, and super cute accessories, I found tons of fun things which will give me an excuse to wear them and go out and find more fun things to wear. This might be an addiction but since shopping requires walking I call it cardio.

THE EARTH WITHOUT “ART” IS JUST “EH”

Postmark Center for the Arts: More info at https://www.auburnwa.gov/city_hall/parks_arts_recreation/arts_and_entertainment/postmark_center_for_the_arts

Might be having an art attack right now. Super excited for the Grand Opening Event for the Postmark Center for the Arts. Happening September 16th, 11am - 3pm, this incredible 85-year-old historic Post Office will be a venue that will celebrate the diverse cultures of the Auburn Community. With a whole afternoon of fun, this event features a ribbon cutting, Artageous community art and activity wall, food trucks, Art Zones with hands on art making activities, and even a Public Art Scavenger Hunt. This is an incredibly designed and intentional hub for art. Sorry Bob Ross, there’s no happy accidents about this place.

THE END

No idea where summer went, but I do know where September is going and I like what I’m seeing. So much to explore, even if it means sweater in the morning and sweating by the afternoon. Someone let Billie Joe know .  . .  I don’t want September to end!
