Auburn Cheryl Sallee Gallery Dmitrii Patapov
The City of Auburn and the Auburn Arts Commission are pleased to present the work of Dmitrii Patapov at the Cheryl Sallee Gallery, on view September 2nd – November 4th, 2026.
“My artistry is an ever-present journey, persisting regardless of my location or activity. It's an unending pursuit to translate my vision onto the canvas. The realism at the core of my work often clashes with the evolving trends in art. I am captivated by the natural world, its awe-inspiring phenomena, the play of light, the spectrum of colors, and the variety of textures. My aim is to illuminate the simple yet profound elements of our surroundings that often go unnoticed. I strive to capture these elements in such a way that the paint transcends its material form, and the canvas breathes life into its own unique space.” - Dmitrii Patapov
Dmitrii Patapov was born in Yerevan, Armenia, and grew up in Russia. He studied at the Tver Art School and later at the Saint Petersburg Art and Industry Academy, where he majored in environmental design. After graduation, he worked for many years as an interior designer, focusing on public spaces such as restaurants, hotels, and offices.
Painting has accompanied him since childhood, as a steady undercurrent through all stages of life. In the Pacific Northwest of the United States-among rivers and mountains that echo the landscapes of his early years-he returned fully to painting.
Today, Patapov works primarily in landscape, seeking to capture the quiet tension between memory and perception, between the permanence of nature and its constant change. His works are held in private collections in Europe and the United States.
